Fort Erie Pit Stop is an accredited DriveON Vehicle Inspection Centre for safety inspections on passenger vehicles and light‑duty commercial vehicles. Located at Unit 4 – 309 Walden Blvd, Fort Erie, ON L2A 1R7, we provide fast, friendly, and transparent inspections for drivers across Fort Erie and the Niagara region.
The DriveON program is Ontario’s modern, digital system for vehicle safety and emissions inspections. Under DriveON, safety inspections must be completed by licensed facilities using standardized government inspection criteria and digital inspection tablets.
A Safety Standards Certificate (SSC) confirms that, on the date of inspection, your vehicle met Ontario’s minimum safety standards required to be registered and plated on the road.
At Fort Erie Pit Stop, we perform:
DriveON Safety Standards Inspections for passenger vehicles
DriveON Safety Standards and annual inspections for light‑duty commercial vehicles
Note: We do not perform salvage or structural inspections. Those require a separate DriveON structural authorization and a Structural Inspection Certificate (SIC), which is outside our current scope.
This service is for most personal-use vehicles, such as:
Sedans, hatchbacks, coupes
Minivans and small SUVs used for personal use
Small pickup trucks used strictly for personal, non‑commercial use
You typically need a DriveON Safety Standards Certificate for your passenger vehicle when:
Transferring ownership of a used vehicle (except between spouses)
Registering a vehicle in Ontario that came from another province/country
Changing a vehicle’s status from “unfit” to “fit”
Registering a rebuilt vehicle (note: structural inspections for salvage are done elsewhere, we are not authorized for that)
Our red seal mechanic and licensed technicians follow the Passenger/Light‑Duty Vehicle Inspection Standard (Schedule 3), including:
Brakes (pads, rotors, lines, hoses, parking brake)
Steering and suspension components
Tires and wheels (tread depth, condition, correct fitment)
Lights and electrical (headlights, signals, brake lights, wiring)
Frame and body (visible structural concerns, rust perforation in critical areas)
Windshield, wipers, mirrors, horn
and more...
You receive a digital inspection report and, if the vehicle passes, your DriveON Safety Standards Certificate.
Light‑duty commercial vehicles have different rules from regular passenger vehicles. Our shop is equipped to handle DriveON safety inspections for light‑duty commercial vehicles, including:
Light‑duty work trucks
Small cargo vans and service vehicles
Certain vehicles that may require annual or semi‑annual safety inspections (for example, those over specific weight thresholds or operated commercially)
You may fall into the light‑duty commercial category if:
Your truck or van is used for business purposes, carrying tools, equipment, or cargo for work
Your vehicle operates under a business name or commercial registration
Your vehicle may require a yellow safety sticker (annual inspection) depending on weight and use
If you’re unsure whether your vehicle is considered commercial or passenger, contact us and we’ll help you determine which rules apply.
Depending on your vehicle and its use, you may need:
A Safety Standards Certificate (SSC): for ownership transfer, registering in Ontario, or changing from “unfit” to “fit”
An annual or semi‑annual commercial safety inspection: commonly for trucks and trailers above certain weight or used commercially
Our DriveON inspection for light‑duty commercial vehicles covers:
Powertrain, suspension, and chassis
Hydraulic or air brakes (where applicable)
Steering system
Tires, wheels, and hubs
Lights and electrical
Frame and body condition
Coupling devices (if applicable)
We follow Ontario’s commercial vehicle inspection standards, ensuring your work vehicle is compliant, safe, and ready for the road.
DriveON distinguishes between regular safety inspections and structural inspections for vehicles branded “salvage”.
At Fort Erie Pit Stop:
We DO perform DriveON safety inspections for passenger and light‑duty commercial vehicles.
We DO NOT perform salvage or structural inspections and cannot issue Structural Inspection Certificates (SIC).

Yes. Fort Erie Pit Stop performs DriveON safety inspections for:
Passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, minivans, light pickups for personal use)
Light‑duty commercial vehicles (work trucks, small commercial vans, some vehicles requiring annual safety/yellow stickers depending on weight and use)
The main differences involve how the vehicle is used and its weight:
Passenger vehicles are mainly for personal use and follow the Passenger/Light‑Duty Vehicle Inspection Standard.
Light‑duty commercial vehicles may be subject to additional commercial requirements, including annual or semi‑annual inspections and, in some cases, yellow safety stickers.
If you’re unsure where you fit, call us with your VIN and usage details, and we’ll help you figure it out.
No. We do not have authorization for DriveON salvage/structural inspections and cannot issue Structural Inspection Certificates. We focus on standard safety inspections for fit and in‑service vehicles.
Most inspections take about 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the vehicle type and condition. Light‑duty commercial inspections can take longer due to additional components and checks.
Appointments are strongly recommended so we can guarantee a slot for your inspection.
